Old Fashioned Banana Pudding

This recipe is so much better than any type of instant pudding you can have

This recipe has been used in my family for years. This is always my quick go to dessert For last minute gatherings.


Banana Pudding


Ingredients

  • 1 1/2 cups sugar, divided

  • 3 tablespoons flour

  • 3 eggs, separated

  • 2 cups milk

  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

  • 1 box Nilla wafers

  • 6 bananas

Directions

  1. Mix 3/4 cup sugar and flour. Stir until mixed and slowly add in milk. Cook, uncovered over boiling water until thickened, stirring constantly.

  2. Remove from heat. Temper egg yolks and slowly whisk into pudding.

  3. Add back to stove and let cook for 3 minutes. Turn off heat and stir in vanilla.

  4. Layer bottom of 9x13 pan with wafers. Slice 3 bananas on top of wafers, add half pudding. Repeat with another layer.

  5. Beat egg whites on high speed until you get a soft peak. Gradually add remaining sugar until stiff peak forms. Spread over pudding, sealing well to sides of dish.

  6. Turn broiler on low and let meringue lightly brown.
